Head down to Upper Frank Kitts Park to get a bird’s eye view of the Fireworks Display. Wellington’s harbour will light the night sky to ward off evil spirits, making way for a new year filled with health, happiness and prosperity for all Wellingtonians.

Legend has it that fireworks were used to drive away evil in China when it was discovered that a monster who terrorised villages was afraid of the colour red and loud noises. 

Pyrostar International’s display will feature pops of noise, and many shades of the colour red. Fireworks also symbolise freedom and unity, so watch out for the explosive bursts of light to celebrate the resilience of communities and the ability to overcome adversity. 

This year’s display will be a most spectacular one to mark the Year of the Dragon, the most auspicious of years for Asian communities. As a unifying force, the Lunar New Year Fireworks Display will bring people from diverse backgrounds together to celebrate shared values and hopes for a fantastic year ahead.

The Fireworks Display will be preceded with performances in Upper Frank Kitts Park with Taiko drummers, Chinese dragon dancers, and other performers - see Dragons on the Waterfront here
