Welcome in the Lunar New Year with Dragon Dance performances at various locations throughout Wellington’s CBD.
Dragon dancers are often seen during the New Year as they are thought to bring good luck and prosperity for the communities they are performed at. The loud music of the dragon dance percussionists and dynamic movement of the dancers work together to ward of evil spirits and make way for a fresh start to the New Year, bringing good health, luck and prosperity. The longer the dragon the more luck and prosperity bestowed to the community.
